I can't believe July is tomorrow! Man, this summer is just flying by! It won't be too long until our garage sale! Keep saving your stuff! If you really need to get it out of your house before the week of the sale please let me know.
In other news, Dan and I have passed our drug screen (shocking, I know), our HIV tests, had our physicals, TB tests and TDAP shots. I am planning on sending all that paperwork in tomorrow. Once that is all in we will be set to schedule our first homestudy. During this homestudy Kim will be coming to our house and doing an "in-depth" interview with both Dan and I. Pray for discernment because though I know almost no one fails a homestudy it is still nerve-racking being asked a myriad of questions about your relationships, family, sex life etc. Although I do understand that they do this to protect the kids it is somewhat frustrating to me that people accidentally get pregnant everyday while Dan and I, who are more than ready, have to jump through hoops. All right, enough venting...
My cousin, Lindsay said to me the other day, "Isn't it crazy to think that right now someone is pregnant with your child?" You know what? That is crazy to me....I really can't fathom it. I have wanted a child for so long and now that I am close I can't really imagine it. To be honest, it scares me. I'm going to be a Mom, Dan is going to be a Dad...We'll be parents!
Weird.
Scary.
Crazy.
Awesome.

Hey Trisha and Dan!
I am excited to hear things are moving with the adoption! I wanted to share our experience with the home study with you so you have an idea of what to expect. We did our visits one per week for 4 weeks. The first week we met with our case worker together and talked in general about us, why we want to adopt, and the countries (we hadn't decided at that point for sure). It was more informational than anything else. In addition, we had to answer some standard questions to ensure that we are not convicts or serial killers :) The second and third visits were Kevin and I alone with the case worker. These visits centered around our lives growing up, family relationships, how Kevin and I met, and our relationship together. The final visit was, again, more informational than anything. We were able to ask questions about what is coming next, we had to go through and sign off on the risks of intercountry adoption info, and that was about it. The whole process was much less intense than I was expecting. The home visit was a very brief walk through. She said that she just needed to verify that your home is what you described it as on your formal app. So...don't stress, its not nearly as bad as it seems in theory. Also, we did find out that you do get to read your home study before it is finalized, which I was excited about. Even though its intercountry vs. domestic, I would assume this process will be very similar for you guys. Good luck with it and congrats!! Its so exciting!! :)

Hey Laura,
Thanks for sharing about your homestudy. I'm not really THAT nervous about it...I'm just extra self-conscious about our home since it is still "under-construction." Kim (our case worker) said that the first interview will take three hours, but the last three won't be too long. So, maybe it is a little different from international. I'm sure the questions are very similar though.
It is good to hear that you guys have gotten so far in the process...did you decide on a country yet? I'm excited that you guys are so far along in the process! Keep me up to date...or Linds. can... :)
Trisha
